Based on traditional klezmer music and Yiddish songs, this trio creates
its own universe.
Channe Nussbaum: Vocal
Mette Smidl: Violin
Oyvind Ougaard: Accordion
Channe Nusbaum at centre. The singer and front figure on stage, Nusbaum writes most of the band's songs: new songs that combine the best from tradition with a fresh touch of renewal.
Mette Smidl plays pure klezmer violin; however at well-chosen intervals her foray into the gypsy style, one of her specialties, lends a distinctive air to the exceptional expression of the trio.
Oyvind Ougaard is the "orchestra" providing the background for these two soloists. Ougaard combines traditional accordion play with elements from jazz, rock, soul, the resulting sound blends the old traveling musician's lightness and present richness.
These three personalities have come together to pursue two goals: to cultivate traditional klezmer and Yiddish songs, and to explore new ways of expanding on the traditional.
Their success can be heard on the CD 'Trio Klezmer'.
They continue to develop their music on stage. The trio's performance on stage gives you an opportunity to follow not only their instrumental expression, but also their work with performing. Not since Marx Brothers has any group worked so extensively on exploring this part of entertainment.
